Acute Psychiatric Hospital

A
24-hour a day inpatient facility usually locked. Staff provides immediate
therapeutic response to clients exhibiting acute symptoms of mental
illness and related substance induced disorders particularly focusing on
those who are a danger to themselves or others, or are gravely disabled.
The goal of the program is to stabilize and help the clients re-establish
themselves in the community as quickly as possible.

Services
that are not directly related to treatment or prevention, but assist the
client in maintaining the status achieved during treatment. Examples of
services include vocational training and housing assistance. (Many of the
programs that provide adjunct services also provide treatment.)

Case Management 
Case
management is a participant-centered and goal-oriented process for
assessing the needs of an individual for particular services. Case

crisis, individual, group, family and case management services. All the
service teams include case managers and a psychiatrist. Only clients with

Day Care Habilitative

Day Care
Habilitative programs provide counseling and rehabilitative services to
clients with substance abuse. Each client attends the program a minimum
of 2-4 hours per session per day, at least 3-5 days a week minimum and
have regularly assigned, structured and supervised treatment services.
Clients live independently, semi-independently or in a supervised care
facility. Services included: individual counseling, group counseling,
medication collateral services and crisis intervention.

Day Treatment

Day
treatment provides a structured therapeutic milieu to a group of clients
who are at risk of psychiatric hospitalization. Day treatment provides an
alternative to hospitalization and help to maintain clients in the
community. Clients are seen from 3 to 5 days a week for individual,
group and/or family therapy. Psychopharmacologic treatment may also be
provided.

Detoxification

A short
term residential setting for individuals who require detoxification from
abused substances A structured schedule of activities is an integral part
of the program in order to start a new pattern of behavior for the
individual. Physician ordered medication may be ordered if necessary for
the client. Clients enter a recovery treatment program following
detoxification.

Medication Support

Medication support services include prescribing, administering, dispensing
and monitoring of medications necessary for maintenance of an individual
with symptoms of mental impairment.

Narcotic Treatment Programs

Any
opiate addiction treatment modality which provides individuals addicted to
heroin or other opiate drug with daily doses of a legal regulated
substitute drug. Programs generally offer replacement narcotic therapy
for the purpose of detoxification or maintenance. Individual and group
counseling are a part of this treatment modality.

Residential Treatment (MH Focus)

Residential treatment programs provide therapeutic and social
rehabilitation services to seriously and persistently mentally ill adults.
Clients receive individual and group counseling, prevocational training,
and guidance in development of social skills, confidence, self-esteem and
independence. The average length of stay is 6-12 months before moving to a
board and care facility, satellite housing, or independent living.

Secondary Prevention (AOD Focus)

Alcohol
and drug secondary prevention strategies focus its efforts on identifying
and encouraging substance users in need of treatment to take advantage of
those services. The strategies include: early intervention,
outreach/intervention, referrals/screening/intake and intravenous drug
use (IDU) Outreach.

Self Help/Peer Support

Peer
support programs are staffed with persons whose qualifications are based
primarily on personal experience. Sharing of experiences and support of
peers are the key elements of peer support operated programs.

Sub-Acute

Sub-acute facilities are 24 hour locked facilities providing intensive
diagnostic evaluation and treatment services for severely impaired
residents suffering from a psychiatric illness. On admission, a team of
mental health professionals makes individual assessments and develops a
comprehensive treatment plan. Services include: medication management,
psychosocial rehabilitation, community outings, grooming, educational,
social/recreational activities, family meetings and support groups.
Clients are referred from acute care facilities.

Transitional Living

Transitional living facilities serve clients transitioning from an
institutional setting such as an acute or sub-acute hospital for mentally
ill clients or from the criminal justice system back to the community for
substance abuse. Clients develop skills to help them live independently.
